Saint Matthew the tax collector

Christ the King Lutheran Church Saturday 6/6/2026 5:30 pm. Sunday 6/7/2026 9:30 am. Our Gospel for this week centers around Jesus calling Saint Matthew the tax collector. Jesus says, “Follow me.” And so it is. The larger context of Jesus calling Matthew to be His Apostle and great Evangelist, is a tour de force of Jesus using His divine power to heal and to exercise His power over creation and to strengthen weak faith and to forgive sins and to cast out demons and to destroy the power of Satan and evil in the world. And all these great wonders of power and authority in service to you, dear friend. “Those who are well have no need of a physician but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” Come and hear His Word, confess you sin and your Savior, and partake of His body and blood for the forgiveness of sins. Be covered with the righteousness of Jesus. SDG

The Holy Trinity

The Holy Trinity. Saturday 5/30 5:30 pm. Sunday 5/31 9:30 am. Christ the King Lutheran Church. Come and consider, confess, and thank God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit for His great love and mercy in creation, salvation, and sanctification. A glorious tapestry of God’s holy will for your redemption is laid out for you in our readings from Genesis, Acts of the Apostles, and Saint Matthew’s Gospel. David’s great song of praise, Psalm 8 gives you the form of thanksgiving and the glory of God given to you, the crown of His creation. You. For whom God made man, Jesus Christ, lived and died and rose . And all this within the context of His Divine Service wherein all your sins are forgiven, His Word and Will proclaimed, and His body and blood given for forgiveness and faith. Don’t miss out on the love of God! See you at Christ the King. SDG

Ascension Day

Today is Ascension Day. 40 days after Easter, 10 day before Pentecost, the Ascension of our Lord Jesus Christ is central in the Proclamation of Jesus Christ only Savior. It is His Death we preach, His Resurrection in which we rejoice, and His Ascension in which we glory as members of His Body, the Church. It is He into whom you are baptized and from Him you received the Holy Spirit to repent and believe. He intercedes for you now. And He will return from the right hand of the power of God to take you to be with Him forever. Take the time to learn of Jesus and His Word this day, Ascension Day. Christ the King Lutheran Church May 14, 2026, 5:30 pm.

Upper Room with Jesus and His Apostles

Tonight and tomorrow at Christ the King Lutheran Church 5:30 Saturday 9:30 Sunday. We return to the upper Room with Jesus and His Apostles. He tells them the Truth about Himself as Lord and only Savior and promises them the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. In just a few hours He will arrested, unjustly judged, and crucified. Yet, it is in His cross and death that He is glorified by the Father. Not only so. He rises from death to go to the Father and to prepare your place with Him forever. He will come again and He does not leave us as orphans in this world of sin and death. He sends “another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of Truth…” In fact, says Jesus, “I am in my Father, and you in me, and I in you.” The Law of God, kept perfectly for you by Jesus Christ, becomes for you an act of love and a denial of self as you follow Jesus. By Holy Spirit power in Jesus’ Word you keep the commandments of God and are loved by Him and Christ manifests Himself in you. The work of the Holy Spirit is to call you to repent of your indolence and indifference and to gladly hear and learn the Word of Christ. See you at CTK in Word and Sacrament this Saturday and Sunday. Alleluia! Christ is risen indeed! SDG

“On the Road to Emmaus”

Alleluia! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! What a grand and Godly consideration of God’s mercy and love in Christ we have this evening 5:30 pm. And tomorrow 9:30 am. In the resurrection account known as “On the Road to Emmaus.” Cleopas and his companion, disciples of Jesus, are cast down with fear, sadness, and disappointment. Jesus was crucified, dead, and buried. When Jesus questions them regarding His resurrection they relate the opinions of men: confusion, doubt, sorrow, and abject fear. But Jesus is there for them! “‘O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken. Was it not necessary that the Christ must suffer these things and enter into His glory?’ And beginning with Moses and all the prophets, He interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.” Friend! Christ is risen! He continues to come to His people in His Word and in His Baptism and in His Body and Blood. Stop relying on the opinions of men! Throw off your fear and doubt and sadness! Jesus is here for you! Come into His daylight’s splendor and know the Truth. Christ the Christ the King Lutheran Church Saturday 5:30 pm. And Sunday 9:30 am. SDG

Alleluia! Christ is risen!

Alleluia! Christ is risen! He is risen indeed! Alleluia! Dear friends, we are entered into the joyful Eastertide. And what gems of resurrection truth we have from Holy Scripture today and tomorrow. Our Psalm 148 takes us back to God’s original righteous creation and brings us into the New Creation of Jesus Christ, risen and ascended. We find the apostles fearlessly teaching the resurrection in the Temple, sprung out of prison by angels, speaking the Truth of Christ to the Council in Acts 5, and returned to the Temple, preaching Christ. Saint Peter, in his first Epistle, illuminates the wonder and glory of your resurrection victory in Christ. And best of all, from Saint John 20, Jesus Christ on Easter evening brings His peace to cringing and frightened apostles, and gives them His Church, the place of His presence, Sacraments, and forgiveness. Thomas was not there that night and demanded a sign so that he could believe. Are you looking for a sign? It is here! The Word and Work of Christ Jesus in the Divine Services of His Body the Church. Come! Obey the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Christ the King Lutheran Church Saturday 5:30 pm. Sunday 9:30 am. “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

The Fifth Sunday in Lent

The Fifth Sunday in Lent. The penultimate Sunday. Next Sunday is Palm Sunday, and Holy Week begins with all the solemn and awful events leading to the Cross of Jesus Christ, His death for sin, and His resurrection for your justification. As is fitting for the penultimate, we travel with Jesus and His disciples to Bethany and Lazarus in the grave for 4 days. Dear friend, don’t miss out on the holiness and dramatic truth from prophet Ezekiel 37, Saint Paul in Romans 8, and Saint John’s Gospel, chapter 11. Hear Jesus give His life giving Word and spirit filled promise and take it to heart. “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone lives and believes in me shall never die.” Christ the King Lutheran Church Saturday 5:30 pm. Sunday 9:30 am. SDG
