25 years ago today, Tuesday, September 11, 2001, I was pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church and School in Saginaw Mi. Our wonderful teachers and staff and myself gathered our children together in the sanctuary and we prayed. Our theme as we sought comfort came to be, “Fear not.” God’s Word for his people in Christ at all times and especially in times of turmoil and war is a Word of assurance and grace. We encouraged the students and the families of Holy Cross, already gathering together, to take His Word to heart and to pour out their hearts to Him in a time of great uncertainty and fear. Friend, whatever trouble or fearful events that threaten your faith and hope in Christ, He is with you. In the blood and righteousness of Christ Jesus you are forgiven and made a child of God. Call on Him. He hears and answers with the strength you need to stand firm in the midst of terror and Satan’s temptations.

“Fear not! I am with you, O be not dismayed,
For I am your God and will still give you aid;
I’ll strengthen you, help you, and cause you to stand,
Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.

“When through fiery trials your pathway will lie,
My grace, all sufficient, will be your supply.
The flames will not hurt you; I only design
Your drops to consume and your gold to refine.”
