It’s Independence Day weekend. At Christ the King Lutheran Church we thank God for the liberty and freedom that are the hallmarks of our nation. We will read the Declaration of Independence Saturday and Sunday for pre service. Yet, we at CTK are called by God to be His holy nation, free in Christ to “proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.” Our freedom in Christ is freedom from the power of sin and Satan and self. In the repentance of faith we become good citizens of the USA because we love God and neighbor. This Saturday 5:30 pm and Sunday 9:30 am we consider Jesus in the midst of persecution and danger. He, as always, thanks the Father for His love and mercy shown to us. And then, recognizing that we, too, walk in danger, invites us to the freedom of the Gospel. “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart and you will find rest for your souls.” Jesus invites you to be truly free in His Truth.
